Virtual Genealogy: Opportunities and Challenges of African American Genealogy (zoom)

In the 400-year history of African Americans in North America, a unique lived experience has unfolded. As a result, the search for African American ancestries is shaped by an atypical and complex past. This presentation will explore the uncommon challenges that beset African American genealogical research, as well as point to opportunities for optimal research success.

Diane Warmsley is a professional genealogist and family historian with 25+ years of experience. Diane holds a certificate in Genealogical Research from Boston University's Center for Professional Education and an MS degree in Education. In 2012, she launched Roots Run Deep to provide professional services to clients and advance genealogy education through classes and lectures. Diane is experienced in New York State records, persons with performing arts backgrounds, and ancestries from the English-speaking Caribbean.

This is the final lecture in a series of 10 monthly genealogy lectures in collaboration with 5 libraries: Glen Cove, Gold Coast, Bayville, Oyster Bay, and Locust Valley.  Join us each month for a different aspect of genealogy.*This program is brought to you courtesy of the Genealogy Collective and is sponsored by the Glen Cove Library.

Registration begins on Tuesday, November 22 at 9:30 AM. Please register with a valid email address so that we can send you the zoom link.
